It wasn’t my intention to get stuck in West Marin, literally stuck. We were riding caboose and doing route marking clean-up for “Day on the Ride” for ALC2014. For the clean-up, our role was to stop and pick up all the posted signage and arrows. There was an arrow way to the right of the road posted on a “slippery road” sign, or is that a “curve ahead” sign. Anyway, I pulled off onto this grassy section so we’d be off the road and closer to the sign when THUNK! We sunk into mud.

But really, it didn’t look like mud when I slowed down to pull over. I thought it was freshly mowed dried grass.

I rocked the 4-Runner back and forth but couldn’t get out. We were up to the truck’s running boards in mud.

And it just so happened that a highway patrol officer AND a lot of fire trucks were in the vicinity to pull us out. Luck was definitely on our side.
