ALC2014 | Day 6 | Lompoc to Ventura

84.3 miles

This is definitely one of my favorite days starting with a nice climb, a ride along the water through Santa Barbara and ending on the beach in Ventura.

This is another fast day as my goal is to travel through Gaviota Pass  at the head of the pack away from the “ya-ya’s” and the “wobblies”. This in turn means that I am held with other riders at Rest Stop 2 until the Highway Patrol clears a passage for us on Highway 101. The drag of sitting, well, standing, and waiting around for the route to open is a very small price to pay for feeling more safe and in control of the “technical” descent of Gaviota Pass.

A downside to all this rushing is arriving at lunch around 10:00 am and then proceeding to Rest Stop 3 before they are ready for the masses and before the entire team is in costume. This year, as in years past, I’m not able to see my Mom in costume but fortunately there are many photos on Facebook to share.
