The Macbeth ColorChecker® Chart was developed in 1976 and remains an industry standard for cinematographers and photographers today.

colorchecker

Now simply referred to as the ColorChecker®, the ColorChecker® is a checkerboard of 24 painted squares. The scientifically chosen colors in the chart represent colors that are problematic for color reproduction, as well as the colors of various natural objects, additive and subtractive primaries, and a gray scale. The specialty of this chart is that not only are the squares the same color as their counterparts, but each square also reflects light in the same way in all parts of the visible spectrum, which means that color consistency is maintained over different illumination options.
